Life|is|land, (auch:) Life-Is|land ['laɪf 'aɪlənd], das; -[s], -s [engl. life island, eigtl. = Lebensinsel] (Med.): steriles Plastikgehäuse, in dem ein Patient für einige Zeit untergebracht wird, wenn seine körpereigenen Abwehrreaktionen nicht mehr funktionieren; Patientenisolator: Man brachte mich für eine knappe Woche in ein so genanntes Life-Island. Das sieht wie ein viereckiges Zelt aus, völlig hermetisch steril abgeschlossen (Hörzu 45, 1989, 141).
